We have the privilege of hearing from Laura Vegas today. She's sharing some tips and some of her Project 365 pages that she's created. She's done a wonderful job at capturing so much of every-day life. Laura is a fabulous designer and we're excited to have her share her wisdom in the wonderful world of 365.
Thanks Laura!
here's some of my pages and explanations that I've posted on my own blog:
week one. i chose to start my album on january 1st ... so there are only 3 days to this first week. i'm starting on the front side of the first page protector ... which is perfect for the three days. and then i'll add a regular sized page protector to the front of the album later ... and make my own title page.
week two. these were really hard to get a picture of. those white things on the bottom of the picture ... those are my toes. i had the album laying on one of the stairs. and i was balancing on another stair ... and on my tippy-toes trying to get the whole album in the shot. yes, i'm on the short side.
week three. as you might have noticed ... i did add a few brads to the first week or two. not sure if i'm going to do that to the other pages. for now, probably not. i don't want to get halfway in and have the album bulk up too much. i think it's going to be good just with the 52 weeks of photos. but i might go back and add a few things ... never know.
week four. i also decided to use the black "day" stickers on the photos ... and the clear circle stickers on the journaling cards. i punched small circles from the extra pattern paper sheets that came in the kit ... using my 5/8" punch that i had. the stickers are a tad bit larger than that ... but it's the only punch i had. then i just drew a rough circle around those stickers.
week five. feel like i should make a few more comments ... but i think it's all pretty self-explanitory. lol!
here's my two tips:
i keep telling people NOT to stress about taking a photo EVERY single day ... and that it's ok to skip here and there. for the first few weeks, i was really good about getting a photo every day. but my last two weeks, i wasn't quite so good about it. but i didn't stress or worry about it. i just took my camera out at the end of the week, walked around the house, and snapped all my photos at once. it doesn't make the album any less meaningful or change the idea behind the album. i'm still documenting our lives and all the little things that have gone on during the week.
the other has to do with staying organized and completing my album. i take my photos during the week. and then every saturday, i upload and order my photos from costco. so i'm only working on the album once a week. i add all the photos and fill out the journaling cards. and it only takes about 15 minutes to do. i also have been uploading my photos for the week to my blog (every saturday), along with more detailed journaling than i might write in the album. just another spot to keep them together and be able to look back on.

Thanks for featuring Laura's pages!!!! Not only does she make awesome creations, she is great at giving good and realistic advise.
ReplyDeleteNice work Laura! I liked seeing how you started in mid-week.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me even more anxious to get my hands on this project!
I'm with you on not stressing about not having an everyday picture - I can always find the little piles of "evidence" or a cute picture of the cats that we have. I also figure that I can always print a menu from our favorite restaurants - great to fill in when the day is too long and stressful and I just don't get a picture taken. Thanks for the great advice!
ReplyDeleteThanks for alleviating the guilt about missing a photo every once in a while. I have been trying to not "guilt trip" myself too much when I miss a day. I've been filling in with some photos of actvities we did that day that maybe I had photos from at another time.
ReplyDeleteGreat pages! I agree in the not getting stressed about the daily photos. I find I can always go around and photograph things on the floor, counter, tables... to represent what is going on in our lives.
ReplyDeletePLEASE can we hear more about when the backorders are due to arrive? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE??? Is there an end in sight???
love all of laura's ideas :)
ReplyDeleteand please could you let us know if you have any idea when the backorders will ship?? :) pretty please! i'll even put a cherry on the top!
love these ideas...ANY chance of offering the kit again?????? come on now it's a month and a half into this train wreck can we get a straight answer?
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see Laura's work on here! She's a constant source of inspiration to me!
ReplyDeleteLooks good Laura! Can anyone tell me the purpose of the Tri-fold card things (there's so many of them)? I'm just not sure what you're supposed to do with them. Not that there's any "rules", but ya know I'm sure they have a specific purpose that I'm just not getting.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI started on Jan 1, and was struggling with the Th-W week spreads I have been doing. This inspired me to take a quick inventory of my supplies and rearrange my album to have a similar start page (with the 3 days, then do my own title page). It flows so much nicer now and I am much happier with it! I'm also going to put the clear day stickers on circles of colored paper or coordinating cardstock. It just looks SO much nicer!
I also print my pics once per week and spend about 30 mintues assembling/journalling. I keep a small notebook with my camera that I can quickly jot down what the pic is for a certain day and any "in the moment" thoughts that I don't want to forget during my weekly "work" session.
As the project moves forward, I find myself getting more comfortable doing it. Really "finding" the everyday stuff/evidence/etc that this project calls for, really learning to appreciate the little things in life. I'm growing so much by doing this! And it's only mid-Feb! I can't wait to see where I'm at this summer! :)
I love the examples and I look forward to more of Laura's work and others as well!
Very cool!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone who had an order put on backorder heard anything new? They said they'd be out in early February, but we're almost past that now.
Susan- the tri-folds can be used for those days when you have a lot to journal and won't fit on the other journaling cards. Also, I've seen examples where people put pictures on them too.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone been re-charged on their credit card yet? and technically speaking, what does mid-february mean in CK language???
I actually called yesterday because my credit card was charged last month so I was concerned something happened to my kit. The gentleman in customer service said it should be coming out mid February, which we are almost at. So we'll see. I'm so ready to get started!! woo hoo.
ReplyDeletemid February in CK language probably means next February...I wasn't able to get a kit so I'd like to know how long it takes to determine if they can do a reprint...of course at the pace they've been taking care of those who did order a kit,my 6 month old could be 6 years old by the time we get a straight answer
ReplyDeleteI'm staying in Malaysia, how can I get the project 365 kit?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
I hope they do a re-order on this kit!I would love to get one!
ReplyDeleteCustomer Service said the kits would ship "sometime in February." Has anyone been re-charged yet???
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting on backorder and called today. They don't have the kits in their warehouse yet so who knows when they'll ship. I also was told "sometime in February" (because that is what they are being told from the manufacturer), so it all depends on when they get the backorders in from China. I'm not holding my breath.
ReplyDeletei just heard "give it 2 more weeks" ... nice. i've been pretty patient so far, but this is just crazy.
ReplyDeleteanywhos.... anymore inspiration out there KOTM Team :)
If anyone wants to see my first four layouts for project 365, I posted them on my blog at http://simplyharris.blogspot.com although my pictures are not as good as the ones above!
ReplyDeleteI really want to get this kit, but if I can't can we please at least get a full digital version made available? I've been trying hard with the partial version, but there are just not enough elements there to really do this.
ReplyDeleteIt seems pretty obvious that the writing is on the wall.
ReplyDeleteThey're not going to do a reprint-if they were they would have made an announcement by now.
They haven't responded to all the requests for a digital kit, so it looks like that's also a no-go.
I think it's time that I quit ennabling CK's bad behavior.
I agree with Kimberly, this is absoulutely REDICULOUS!!!! We are now a month & a half removed from the disaster of January 1 & people who were charged for a kit can't even get a straight answer let alone those of us who were shut out by extremely poor planning. It seems the only one in this company that cares is Becky, she's the only 1 who has been trying to get answers for everyone.
ReplyDeleteWell, in the latest issue of CK they have an ad for the next KOTM!! I guess they couldn't get the ad removed before it went to press, what happens when people try to get that one?
ReplyDeleteLaura... GREAT post! Thank you for the inspiration! You always do such a great job!
ReplyDeleteCK: Please update on the status. Still anxiously hoping that more kits will become availible.
I had hoped to get the February kit, depending on what it was, but it's great to know that's out, now, too. It's not enough to bungle everything one month -- got to go for two in a row? I think I'll be buying kits elsewhere from now on -- lots of online sources for these, and I'll probably a) be able to get them and b) get them without terrible business practices. Maybe some of you should consider the same.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll design my own Project 365 at this point -- if I get the time. I just need to know what brand/where I can get a binder like the one that came with Becky's kit, so if anyone has any ideas on that, please let me know.
